let's face it, winter is all about the monotone hues, however a great way to spice up an outfit can be through the accessories. i personally love a bright bag as it gives the eye something to catch onto. look for something small to medium sized, as a big, bright tote can be overpowering.

I've become a hopeless fan of all things leather lately – and in particular, mixing leather and hardware with softer fabrics and prints. See for yourself:

I've been obsessed with the Balenciaga boots for the longest time, but they're sadly so far out of my price range. Early birthday gift to myself, perhaps...? I've found some similar ones for about a tenth of the price, but there really is nothing like the quality of high-end designer clothing and shoes, is there?

Hello from Cat

So, where to begin?

I'm Cat, and I'm a 20 year old student living in Chicago, Illinois. I'm studying math and economics – the furthest thing from fashion that you could imagine – but have always loved clothing and styling outfits. I started out sketching clothing and wanting to be a fashion designer the way all little girls do, but it wasn't until my senior year of high school that I actually learned how to use a sewing machine and started putting together my own creations. Now, several years afterward, I've made a few of my own collections and participated in a number of school-sponsored fashion shows – and am finally starting a fashion blog along with my friend Wendy to create a devoted space for my inspirations, both for my own style and for my designs, as well as the outfits I wear day-to-day.

It's always hard to describe one's style in words, but I'll try anyway: my style occupies the line where gritty meets pretty. I like cool, urban, utilitarian looks that are still feminine. I like a good beanie, I love denim and leather and slouchy tops, and I like outfits that are effortless and not too done up. This'll come through far more in my outfit posts, I'm hoping, but it's a start.

Wendy and I met when we were in seventh grade and attended school together for a few years. We've since gone to college in Seattle and Chicago respectively, and share some style interests and inspirations but have our own aesthetics (and are surrounded by different styles owing to our locations on the West Coast and Midwest). We conceptualized this blog over the course of several Facebook chat messages and Instagram comments – both of us had wanted to start fashion blogs for some time, but neither of us had taken the leap yet. We'll be posting a whole variety of things – our own outfits, clothing pieces and collections by designers that we love, style inspiration from all around the internet, Polyvores, and the occasional personal/life update.
